Velpke - young, lively and close to nature
Welcome to the rural district located north of Helmstedt in Lower Saxony, near Wolfsburg - the town of the Volkswagen Factory in Germany.
The community of Velpke is the home of 12.000 inhabitants.
Beautiful woods, meadows and fields with soft hills, as well as lakes and ponds in cultivated quarries mark our landscape.
Velpke is well known for its sandstone quarries. They have been industrialized since about 1600 AD by a man named "Körner", who emigrated from Saxony. Here they fabricated slabs and blocks which were transported on the canals to Bremen and were shipped overseas.
Many well-kept tracks and forest paths are ideal for hiking and cycling.
